On Gamespot.com, I came across an article on windows Vista and DirectX 10. Curious about the subject wondering if it were to say anything about DX9, I clicked the link. After reading the article, i feel pretty safe about Vista and current games. I'm happy that they'll run and the main difference between DX9 and 10 is that DX10 is all about streamlining and that its mainly for boosting performance--sometimes up to 6 or 8 times!
Its a good read and I suggest that everyone read it so that they can stop crying about current games not running on Vista.

DirectX 10 will increase game performance by as much as six to eight times. Much of that will be accomplished with smarter resource management, improving API and driver efficiencies, and moving more work from the CPU to the GPU.

Windows Vista will be backward compatible with DX9 and OpenGL games shipping for Windows XP, but true DirectX 10 games will require Windows Vista and a DX10 video card to run at full speed with all the graphics set to "pretty".

The transition isn't going to be too difficult, according to Epic's Tim Sweeney: "DirectX 10 is a nice incremental step up from DirectX 9, so games currently in development on Windows XP/DirectX 9 will be able to move to DirectX 10 with minimal hassle.
