only if they can match an IP with an actual person, which they can't.

I think the RIAA actually lost a case for that reason

Yeah, IP address isn't much different than a street address. You can narrow down your possibilities pretty well but you can never pinpoint exactly who downloaded what.

^ try this
What is my IP address? Show my IP address. IP Tracer & IP Locator.
(gives gps coordinates pretty accurate i think) plus they can also contact the isp's and ask whos ip adress it is cant they?

That can only show the co-ordinates of the exchange I think.

And no, they can't ask an ISP whose behind an IP
1. it's illegal for ISP's to give out that information without a legal warrant
2. IP's change

I can saw for sure that Apok is right with his last comment. As i just moved. Same provider, different IP. I know cause i checked it against my records from just last week. So yeah, IP's change at intervals. It may be what it is today and change in a few weeks depending on the ISP.

Many people would be shocked to see their IP has changed several times over the course of the browsing lives. I know when i looked up my list on another site where i am a Admin i was shocked to see so many entries. XD

As for the article. The MPAA will never see a cent of it. Either they will declare bankruptcy to get out of it or they will appeal it for years to come.
