With all these spammers on the boards past few days, can Larry or the mods track this somehow? if it's all coming from the same IP addy, isn't there a way to block him? Or is he coming through a proxy?

Right now as of 9:30 am every single forum/subforum is littered w/ spam by "Freestuff". This is ridiculous... It seems like it's the same jackass fool that's coming around to post about his stupid iPod deal.... :rolleyes:

I believe there is a way to block IP addresses. I'm not sure about vBulletin 100% but I know i have the power to on my board so you should be able to.

Yea, I just banned a IP addy on a other forum that i'm a admin on. That's what he gets for spamming crap.

I haven't had to ban anyone on my forum but thats just because no one goes to my forum!!! I need members so badly lol.

Not much you can do with these guys.

Best thing to do is report the threads to the mods.

Personally, I hit them with some more my FLAME WAR ARTILLERY. But since my DIE SPAMMER . GIF and THIS THREAD SUX . JEPG has been working over time , I am going to need some more suggestions soon for some new taunts to let our spammers now that they are not weclomed

why not just ignore them ... like if it says free ipod .. dont open it!

how about a script that'll scan a post if the user has less than 20 posts and if it mentions the words free and ipod together or something more complex, it doesn't allow it posted and blocks the user?

Larry, i thought about sending you or one of the Mods an e-mail notification but figured one of you guyz would see it soon. It seems like this "Freestuff" character is the same as the last spammer that's been coming around past few weeks. Can you see in your admin logs if it is the same person? I suppose like most spammers, he'll probably have multiple IP addresses anyway but i thought that there might be a way to track him down.

MB, are you saying that you can only block the 2nd octet of the IP addy? If you can't ban a specific IP addy, what prevents the previously banned members from switching ISPs and coming back to these boards again?
