Default Plasma TV - High Constast or High Definiton?

Boss man is looking at getting a 42" Plasma TV. He's got a set budget in mind about AU$2500

And it's come down to the following :-

Panasonic 42" Standard Defintion Plasma TV with 3000:1 Contrast
Pioneer 42" High Defintion Plasma TV with 850:1 Contrast

What is better,
1. Standard Defintion with 3000:1 Contrast
2. High Defintion with 850:1 Contrast

Plz vote and discuss

You have to go HD, but I have never seen a plasma with a contrast ratio of only 850:1. They typically range anywhere from 3000:1 to 10,000:1.

My vote is for the Panasonic, they make great TVs. 850:1 is also extremely low contrast ratio, the image quality must be awful! If it were higher then I'd certainly go for the Pioneer.

Standard... For the contrast ratio, even if all stations have to be HD here in america soon they do sell converter boxs....

Pioneer does make a Hig Def Plasma with a better MUCH BETTER contrast. However it's very expensive.

HD is much more important than a contrast ratio. Definitely the HD, no question about it.

because HDTV is such an increase in quality of SDTV. And if you sit infront of the TV properly the contrast ratio won't make much difference. Although I must say that I don't reccomend Plasma anyway, try and get an LCD if you want a flat screen.
