BY GETTING ON THIS VENTRILO SERVER, YOU ARE LETTING THE OWNERS OF THIS VENTRILO SERVER KNOW THAT YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD THIS ENTIRE POST!!

There are a few things that you will need to know about this server, so let this serve as a FAQ if you will:


WHAT IS VENTRILO?
Ventilo is a Voice over IP (VoIP) communication method widely used by friends, family and gamers in the world of technology.

WHY USE VENTRILO?
The answer to this is relatively simple. A little while ago a thread was started about creating a community Ventrilo server for all of us to use in order to accomplish a few things:
1) Get to know the TF community better
2) Play games with each other while on Ventrilo
3) Discuss technology together via voice just like we do here on the forums via text

WHAT DO I NEED IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE?
Let's start basic. The first thing you need is a sound card.....yes, I said basic The next thing you need is a microphone. Or, if you don't have a mic and you are playing a game with someone, you can simply listen and use text replies.

The next thing you need is the application.

DOWNLOAD THE VENTRILO CLIENT HERE

From that page, you can choose your client, download and install the application.

After installing the application, simply use THIS GUIDE for step by step instruction.

This will get you started, the rest of the potential troubleshooting we will hash out along the way....(mic troubles, push-to-talk troubles, inbound and outbound sounds and events, etc.)

This application is pretty simple but there are a lot of things that you can tweak in order to gain performance.

HOW?
If you wish to donate anything, even a dollar, please notify an admin (Currently HAVOC2k5 and Mikesgroovin). But please don't think that this is a pay service. We want to drive, to the members of tech-forums.net, the fact this is FREE!

HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN USE THIS SERVER?
Currently, we can have 50 people online.

IS THIS VENTRILO SERVER RUN, IN ANY PART, BY TECH-FORUMS.NET?
Absolutely Not. We wish to make very clear that this Ventrilo server is not owned, nor run by any part or portion of Tech-Fourms.net. On that note, since this is in no way affiliated with TF, the rules will be different as well.



:Rules:

The rules are EXTREMELY SIMPLE...

1. Spamming will result in a ban (This means channel spamming, phonetic spamming, page spamming, etc.)

2. Fighting will result in a ban (This means that it will be up the admins on a per incident basis.....keep it simple folks....No one wants people yelling at each other.)

3. Although there will be little control over the language people use, PLEASE BE CURTIOUS TO OTHERS. Persons under the age of 18 must also keep in mind that if you are in an environment where the people on this Ventrilo server can be heard and frowned upon, PLEASE LET SOMEONE KNOW SO THAT WE CAN REMAIN CURTIOUS

4. Please logout of the server when you are going to be away for more than an a few hours or so. (This won't really be enforced do to the number of slots we have versus users that will be on....But, just thought I should mention it)

5. If you wish to use this server for an event or small tournament, please feel free! If you are going to be bringing a group larger than 5 people, PLEASE ASK THE ADMIN FIRST. The last thing I want to see is a random guild raid of 40 people in Molten Core (or something similar)

6. THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE .... The Admins reserve the right to change any of these rules at any time

TECH ON VENT FTP SITE INFORMATION


A lot of people thought it necessary to setup a FTP Server for the Tech on Vent users to enjoy, therefore one has been setup with the access/rules as follows:

:Rules:

The rules are also EXTREMELY SIMPLE...

1. Upload ONLY to the Upload folder. Files can and probably will be moved around later, but just for simpicity, upload ONLY to this folder.

2. NEVER attempt to move, rearrange, edit or remove files. Please leave this up to the admin.

3. NO ILLEGAL OR OFFENSIVE MATERIAL OF ANY TYPE SHOULD EVER BE UPLOADED. (Porn, racist material, etc)

Anyone caught using this FTP Server for anything else
than Games, Programs, etc will be logged and reported.

Please don't use foolish or spiteful behavior and ruin a perfectly good, FREE Service for everyone else that wishes to use it.

I'd just like to thank everyone that has come to the TechonVent server and shown their support. We've had about 30 different people in about two days. We are hoping that more of you can find the time to join and check it out. I'm sure you'll find that it's a really fun and entertaining experience.

At first it may seem a little awkward to talk to people you've never met, but in a short time you'll get more comfortable. If you decide to check it out and join the server and are experiencing audio problems, click on the "CHAT" button and someone will enter the chat and help you. Please understand that this is a new voice community for all of us and everyone is new. So just join in, say hello and jump in the conversation.

This community isn't going to be built by Mike and I, it's built by all of you. It's totally FREE for everyone. Take this opportunity and join the server...

Ummm....no....sorta....but oh well. It also means that they can change it without notifying you. So, it means that it's up to you to make sure you know the rules as they're changed from time to time. Basically, it's so that you can't say "well, I didn't know you changed them!!!". No excuse.

Anyway, if I had a mic I'd get on the vent server, but I don't...so, I won't.

No. #6 is basically saying, "We have the right to adjust or taylor the rules to enhance the betterment of the community."

Since this community is new, it's going to take some time to fine tune it. We won't really know what is going to happen until it does. So... we will develop rules and guidelines as we see fit.

I didnt see no one in the general room so Is tarted moving thro rooms to see if theres anyone in there at all, i got spam kicked after moving like 4 rooms :x

No, you didn't get banned. There aren't any admins logged in right now. Also, as soon as you log into the server, you will see all of the users in the channels. You don't have to move back and forth through the channels.

The Spam Kick isn't set to four...

Click my sig and scroll down, it will give you an image of anyone on the server at any given time.

Why don't you pick up a cheap Mic somewhere. They aren't very hard to find and you get get them as cheap as $3.00-$20.00
