Default Opinions on Music

Just want to get everyone's opinion on their music. What do you listen to mostly? Bands, list some bands. Dont say you listen to everything, nobody listens to everything, you like somethign and hate somethign else.

I really dig the old 60's and 70's rock. I think nearly 90% of everything out of the past 15 years has absolutely sucked. I'm a musician as well, so I'm rather finiky about what I listen to.

Pink Floyd is my favorite, alongside the Grateful dead. Like Van Halen, The Rolling Stones, The Who, AC/DC, Boston, things of that nature. And anything with a great guitar in it. Joe Walsh, cant forget about Joe Walsh. Gotta love joe Walsh. Really any classic rock out of that era, I love.

Jedi mind Tricks, I've never heard any of their stuff. I should check them out.

What about NWA? Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Warren G? Old Skool hip hop is the ****! I HATE, repeat HATE, DESPISE with the utmost of passion present day rap and hip hop. However, early 90's gangsta rap is tight. Songs like 'Regulators' and 'Boyz in da hood', songs are tight. I'm not big on Metal, especially the hard stuff, just plain out dont like it. But older Metal, like in the days when Metallica was considered a poster child for metal, thats the metal I like. Like I said, I'm a musician, so I'm super picky when it comes to my music.

I guess I'm wierd, but I despise modern rock, heavy metal, grunge, and all forms of today's rock music. People say I'm the only white guy they've heard of who didn't like rock.

I listen to techno and rap.

Yeah, all the hip hop acts you listed are great too. So much great talent in hip-hop music came out in the 90's, way too many to name. And yeah, I hate current mainstream hip-hop too. It really makes the whole culture look like a group of stupid and ignorant people, it's dissapointing and depressing.

I actually was never into metal up until last summer. I was at a hip-hop show for the group Non Phixion and their music is heavily influenced by metal, the DJ there was spinning metal records before the main act performed, and I actually liked some of it, so I asked other people at the show what he played and picked up a few albums and ended up getting into the genre that way.

Also, Jedi Mind Tricks is really talented group from Philadelphia. I would recommend looking into their album Violent By Design to begin with. The producer for the act, named Stoupe, is a musical genius.

For the most part Indie and punk. Despite popular belief punk is not dead.

The police
Dropkick Murphys
Silverchair
Black Flag
The clash
The ramones

Those are probably the better known ones. I really don't mind a lot of different music though. The beastie boys and rage against the machine aren't bad, and I didn't mind coldplay until they got very repetitive.

I really don't like hiphop, I really don't like electronically mastered music so that's probably why. I also do not particularily like anything mainstream since MTV was born, oh and I should add that Nirvana are horribly overrrated.

BTW, I play bass and a bit of guitar.

I like some punk music too, actually. My favorite punk bads are probably Sex Pistols and Bad Religion. I think my favorite newer punk band is Funeral Shock, they're from the bay area. They only have a vinyl EP out, can't wait for them to release some more material.
