Default need help buying a camera

im looking to buy a new camera for college soon so i was wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions to which ones are good and not. right now i have a sony dsc-w200 and i would like to find something very similar in size. my budget is around 300. here are some cameras im trying to decide between right now im leaning heavily toward the sony dsc-w170 because its nice and compact but has a fairly nice sized lens for its size. i dunno for some reason i think the bigger the lens the better?

sony dsc-w170b
Buy the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W170/B 10.1-Megapixel Digital Camera – Black and other Digital point-and-shoot cameras at circuitcity.com

id prefer to get one from cc since i can get a discount there but mainly im just looking for a good one so can someone tell me the best camera i can get for that price range and fits my needs? also is that sony any good?

looks nice
since you've owned a Sony previously, it'd be nice to stick with old memory cards

the SD850 IS from Canon looks awesome too.
except it doesn't have wide angle lenses like the W170
and less zoom =\

We jsut got a new Kodak that is great. From Best Buy.

Kodak - EasyShare 10.1-Megapixel Digital Camera - Black - Z1012 IS

Love it already. HD pics along with great zoom and everything. By far this camera beats out the FujiFilm we used to have.

Worth a look.

Well the Sony Cybershots are good. I have used a few of those. The newer FujiFilm Finepix are also a good choice. I have a older model that i use while my wife has that new one. I still like my finepix. It does take great pics.

Canon all the way. They have the best lenses for a compact, and are very easy to use. They are always a nice size too and a nice weight which makes them feel like they're built well, which they are.

I always found that Sony cameras were difficult to get used to, and results weren't as good as I'd hoped.

Check out some reviews, they always help
