| but seriously, your teacher should know better.... there is only two manufactures: AMD and Intel.... I think there was a "Quantum" manufacturer at one time, they made processors like "Quantum Pro" and the "Quantum Lazer II". |

| Heyyo,
Cyrix used to be trying to make it big, but they failed and went under I believe. If I remember correctly, their preformance was ok, but their prices were horrible, so people went astray. So your teacher is like, stuck in computer stoneage there. I don't think Cyrix lived past 96.. I'm not sure exactly how long they were in the race, but they definately aren't a runner up anymore.

| Intels major competitor was Cyrix way before AMD became what it is today. So your teacher was right. If asked whom was Intels biggest competitor. AMD financially isn't in anyway shape or form close to intel.
IN 2004 Intel reported revenue of 8.0 - 8.2 billion dollars where AMD reported 3.4 billion dollars. Those number won't be drastically different in 2005.
Intel owns AMD and AMD owns Intel... Depend on how you look at it...

Listen get your teacher on a computer and google amd and google Cyrix and show him who is intels biggest competitor, and show him what a dumb *** he is.

| Yeah AMD is a competitor, but if he was focusing about teaching history, you should have listened.
Besides AMD and Intel, their is cyrix, IBM (PowerPC), Motorolla (I think they invented RISC) and Samsung (ARM processors)
Cyrix are alive and kicking in the low power segment. |

Well, the XBox360 is using PowerPCs but what do ya expect? Fx-57s?
But yea, Though The_Mard got it mostly right, Cyrix is still alive, just no one knows about it
I have a A+ Certification Book, but I dunno where it is. It has a paragraph about Cyrix, I'll copy it here (and credit) when I find it. |
