Default Living at your work place

After bugging him about it for the last few year, Bossman is finally getting a store front.

Now the place that I think he is looking at getting is 2 stores. The second story was orginally made so that some one could live there. It's 2 bed room, Kitchen, Living Room, Bathroom/Shower.
He's thinking about using it as storage.
He also thinking about leasing the space out to me for about AU$100 per week.
He trust me enough that I am not going to knock off the joint. And the fact that there is some living up stares from the store will make the insurance fee cheaper.

The location is about 10 minutes drive from the heart of the city.
Considering the location , you are lucky to even find a single bedroom appartment for $100 per week. Let alone 2 bedrooms, kitchen and a living room. I am also currently not 100% happy with the current $100 per week arrangement at my folks place.
Until I get my car, I will be saving at least $50 per week in public transport. And there is parking in the back.
I get to sleep in until about 9:30am every day as all I have to do with wake up, shower and walk down stares to get to work. (Hours are going to be 10am to 6pm)
It's a nice enough neighbourhood.

On the down side, I will be living at work. And i really can not use the excuse of "Oh, left that document on my home PC" and the boss will know excactly if I am really chucking the sicky.
Plus there is the ever possible problem of "What if I change my job?"

Anyways, has any one here lived at the same location, or extremely close to their work. Should i move in with to this new location? Any other words of advice / experiences if I was to take this opportunity?

Personally I think you should go for this. As you said, it's close to work (real close) which has it's advantages and disadvantages. It's a **** of alot better than working with your parents.

Disadvantages are you cannot call in sick for no reason (Shouldnt be doing this anyways ) and that they can hassle you in your off time.

I am one of those people that only call in sick if I am really at death bed.

In my current job, I think I have only fudged a sicky once. And that was last year because I had some personal stuff to sort out.

It does seem to be an attractive offer as I think my parents would like me to get out of their hair after I crash landed back home last year.

Before I agree to any thing, I am going to make sure I get every thing in writing from my boss.

My main concern are..
* My privacy. Especially when I am having an R.D.O.

* What happens if I change jobs. I think my boss trust me enough to not knock off the joint. However I don't want my rent suddenly rising just because i don't work for him any more.
Over all, I think it would be best if I do find another place to move into ASAP if I do change jobs.

Hey Harper, didn't you say something a while back about quitting ur current job? Guess you decided against it.

I think it's ok to live at work if you are planning on being there for a while. But, if you try to find a new job, probably should move out...

More specifically, quitting so you can do the insane Antarctica thing? Is that still a possibility?

I got a one of those polite letters saying that I did not qualify for the antarica job. However they will keep my resume on record for future reference. (yeah, bull****)

As for my current employeer is actually doing some new with the company which as resparked my interest to continue working with him.

However before I make any final desision, I am going to make sure that what ever lease arrangement I have with him covers my immedate butt just incase I deside to find employment elsewhere.
(In otherwords, enogh time to get myself and my possessions to another location.)

Default I little up date

I have still not managed to look at the place yet as I have been busy. And last week end, I was not paying attension to street number as me and my freind drove past the new joint.

Currently, the boss and the land lord as just about finalised every thing. The only thing that needs to be done it the lease drawn up and signed. This should be done by the end of the month.

Now the boss is giving a rather large room upstars. So I am going to have one of those studio style appartments. Just means I have to make up some partition to seperate the sleeping area from every thng else. I have book shelf in mind that will do suit that purpose.

Since it's just going to be me living there, it's not like I need any extra rooms appart from Bathroom. However I am making sure that I am taking the kitchen too. And part of the basement for washing machine and dryier.

Now the hard part...... How much is this going to cost me.
Since the boss is making me work an extra 6 hours each week, it not charging me any thing at all.
* NO RENT
* NO WATER BILLS
* NO ELECTRICTY BILLS
* NO INTERNET BILLS

About the only thng I am going to do is purchase a VOIP phone for when some one want to call me. (I am not line rental for another phone line)

Compaired with my current situation, it worked out that I am AU$150+ better off each week. About the only thing that I need to worry about it putting food in my face.

So right now, we just need to get the lease signed. After that, the shop fitters are going to be coming into paint the place and install out shop fitting.
During this time, I might make a few trips during the week ends to start moving my funiture over there. I just hope my parents allow me to take both my Queen Size Bed and Futon.
Currently, I am sleepng on the futon. As my queen size bed is currently in my parents guest room. The futon as it turns into a couch too. So that will be good for when freinds what to crash over.
Some thing that they plan to do alot now that they know they got a place near city where they can use as a crash pad.

Also my dad is giving me his refrigerator as he does not like it. Main problem with it is that puts too much stuff in there and the door comes open from time to time.

As for me starting to live there. That is going to be close either late march, early april.
