Default HDTV...not for a monitor

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I need some advice on HDTVs, if you know anything. First of all, I don't know the difference between 720, 1080pi, whatever. And I'm not sure if cost makes a difference. They have some great-looking models at Costco that are pretty affordable to my budget, but I don't want the thing to konk out after six months of use. I know I can always return it but those things are heavy!! Is it worth it to shell out the big bucks for a name brand?

Those are pretty good resources, although some of the technical terms might lose people. Don't worry about 720p or 1080i (some people think 720 looks better, but it takes a careful eye and a really clean picture to tell the difference). As for the cost...well, you could always play limbo.com and get one for free! Seriously, though, I know that those cheaper models can also be tempting but with TVs sometimes it pays to go with a good name. Although it's hard to tell what a good name is sometimes. Had a Sony fizz out on my earlier in the year -- luckily still under warranty.
