Default hdd temp

well i was playing some games today and i had hwmonitor up on my second monitor, well the game was loading to a different mission and i happened to glance over to the temps and one of my hdd's was at 58c when its usually at 35c. Now i don't really know if thats really hot for a hdd but i picked up a hdd cooler at a local store for a cup bucks and installed it and the temps went down to 20c. But the thing is the game i was playing wasn't installed on that hdd so why was it getting so hot, it shouldn't even have been being used that much. The os isn't on that hdd either. So why was it getting so hot?

sorry, posted in wrong section, can a mod move it to hardware troubleshooting.

Sounds like a software glitch of some type. Never fully count on any software for accurate temp readings. Many used to prefer the Everest free home edition while some reported off the chart cpu temps at times.

The hardware monitor in the bios on most boards now seen or using an actual addon sensor you have to physically install are far more reliable.

One program being run lately that seems to be problem free here but not always for others is called PC Wizard 2008. That shows the video card temp as well as those for the cpu and cores but not for drives.

With SpeedFan I would see hard drive temps there while it was further off from the hardware monitor when looking at cpu temps then PC Wizard. Another thing of couse would be location in the case if that lacks enough air flow or the drive is now seeing a problem on it's own.

You post stuff in this section always cause it gets more view. Don't play stupid and I think a Mod should give you an infraction for "playing it stupid".
