Talking Escape Cons Recaptured by hitch hiking a undercover police car

Dumb, dumber and dumbest

Three escapees from a western NSW correctional centre managed to effect their own recapture yesterday, when they inadvertently flagged down an undercover police car for a ride.

They also aided in their own recapture by still wearing parts of their green prison uniforms, which helped the officer in the undercover car, already alerted to their presence in the area, to identify them.

The prisoners, who had escaped from the minimum security Warakirri Correctional centre near Ivanhoe during Wednesday night, were recaptured by a lone police officer at 4.10pm at Buronga in the State's southwest.

Dozens of police cars were searching for the trio along the length of the Victorian/NSW border.

More than 200km from Warakirri when they were recaptured, the three men, aged 19, 20 and 27, were walking along River Road in the small border town of Buronga when they flagged down the undercover car.

The officer in the car, who was not specifically on the hunt for the three fugitives, recognised them from an alert put out over police radio and immediately pulled over and arrested them.

"What can I say, we're always on the alert for crime," said Sergeant Stuart Young from Dareton police.

"[The undercover officer] was going about his normal business, and it probably was coincidence in many ways that it turned out that he was the person in the vehicle they stopped.

"I think perhaps the partial green clothing may have been a bit of a give away.''

When questioned about the amazing coincidence of the escapees hailing a police car, Sergeant Young was equanimical.

"You never know what's lurking around the next corner. Though you don't normally have them fall into your lap like that.

"He was just the right person in the right place at the right time."

The trio were taken to Dareton police station and were charged with the escape, and will front Wentworth Local Court later today.
LOL! What a group of idiots!
At lease next time raid a [INSERT CHARITY NAME] Clothing bin before trying to hitch ride next time.
