My friend was downloading a game from microsoft and he has dsl and was wondering why it started downloading at 256kb/seconds and then goes down to 90kb/seconds in about 3 minutes?

if it progresses slowly down to 90 that means the download is being capped I have the same problem choose a diffrent mirror if possible

thats totaly gay. i got a 150kb/s connection, and ms always caps me at about 85-95, while download.com or newhere else goes the full 145-150

It's because of TCP. TCP starts at a high bitrate, and starts to scale down if something between you and server cannot handle the speed and starts dropping packets.
