I haven't watched the movie, but in one of my classes we are reading the book that was based off of it.
529, the amount that all the elements in a persons body could be for. (That is my favorite line.)

I think that the main idea is in a way Sieze the day, but I think it's about sezieing the day and the possible conquences of what happens. Neil and Mr. Keating are the two big storylines that support this idea. I mean they did what they wanted, seized the day di things thier way and look what happened to them.

well I didn't think about the consequences but for me what the movie promoted is individualism, in other words, everyone has the right to choose his own way of life. and in the movie the individualism was struggling with authority, and since sacrifice is necessary in any struggle, neil and Keating sacrificed in order to win the struggle. Did they win the struggle?

Keating didn't win the struggle because he was removed from a prime place to fight off and promote individualism more. Neil won because for him he didn't achieve individulalism to his highest point.

Keating did win, he helped Todd Anderson to overcome language problem, and he left his influence to his students who would continue the struggle. I would rather say that Neil reached a solution of the problem between him and his father, than winning the struggle. actually during this movie (and many other stories, such as... tale of two cities, my favorite) every character managed to get some kind of achievement or level-up at the end.
