Default Data Size Discrepancy between two External Hard drives

Hello all -

So in an attempt to reformat my external firewire drive I've just backed up all the data from it onto another external hard drive (usb). All good, copied and everything, about 130 gigs or so. I was checking to make sure all the data had copied and saw something strange: that all the copied data/folders/etc (on the usb) were a bit larger than the originals on the firewire drive. Is this normal? They all seem fine and all, its just a bit puzzling. They're both UNIX formatted; I'm on Mac OSX.

Anyone had the same thing? Know what's up? Should I be worried before I reformat?

Thanks folks in advance -

-Danji
