| Re: Darned Facebook ! See, there ya go. Mileage may vary. I've got maybe out of about 20 "friends", about 5 of them are family, 10 of them are former school mates, and one of them, errrm, ahem, well, she wants to be an "oldskool-mate" again, lol.
No, not really, I think what it is, is that she was always one that needed a lot of "look at me" attention, and my experience with her was when her love life wasn't so good, I would get the call or email or whatever. Her message to me was ".....I assume you are happily married....." ( words removed for brevity). And then in the next line she states "I am seeing a great guy, blah blah and so on....". Well if he is so great, why does she keep contacting me ?
I will say, that it isn't all bad, one girl in my neighborhood - just a friend, really - she contacted me for the first time on Facebook, I haven't heard from her in a long, long time. So that was nice. Quote:
I know how that goes.
My girlfriend's ex-boyfriend friend requested me.
wtf??
| LOL ! Wtf is right !

However did have my previous house mate, school teacher, stop using his live journal account.
It first started off with 2 of his kids finding out about his live journal page and started giving him heaps about him and his girl friend.
Day later, more student found out about this. They then discovered a comment that he made about 2 of his students. Now names of the students where not named. However enough detail was put in for people who where in that class to work out who these 2 students where. The entire comment was that called 2 of this students "a pair of ****ing idiots".
Anyways, the school then found out. He had parents breathing down his neck and students acting like cyber vigilanties. The school managed to keep this contained. Appologises where made. And online comments where removed and my house mate stopped posting any thing about online.
However this was not go enough for some parents. They desided to take this up with the Department of Education. My house mate walked into to school only to find that there were 2 people from the department and 2 police officers who suspended him immedately as he was under investigation.
To make thing worse, at the same time that he was getting escorted out of school, there was some thing in the news about another teachers getting busted for being a suspected pedophile. Since the news did not name names of this other fellow, every thought it was my housemate that was the same person that was in the news.
For the next 3 1/2 weeks, he could go into school, instead he had to go to the district office while his life was put under investigation. Meanwhile, his live journal account was getting hammered by abbuse from some of this students. Mostly the younger ones from year 7 to year 9. Year 10 onwards and the staff where smart enough to realise that this was all a farce.
3 1/2 week later, it's discoved that he was no longer a threat to any childs well being. He's allowed back into school. Problems still persisted where he had every thing from his car getting keyed and egg to students making pedo-bear remarks about him. To add to this, some of his there websites where found, and some of the students where putting abusive remarks in his guest books. 1 1/2 days, he figures that he's had anough of this, goes on stress leave and applied for a compasionate transfer to another school.
Since then, he's left online social networking alone.

| Re: Darned Facebook ! Facebook is bad.
It allows criminals to be caught.
Catches drunk kids and gets them suspended from school.
Let's your boss know that you aren't actually sick at home, because you can use the interent & a computer.
It gives x-girlfriends a chance to say, "OMG, that's his wife/girlfriend... lol that's as good as he could do."

| Re: Darned Facebook ! Keyboard Cowboy, thank you for sharing that story. I know things can get out of hand, but that was just crazy ! In my case, it is just an ex-girlfriend just nosing around, she has before. It's just that you think you actually won't hear from them again, but then you do. I wonder if she will EVER get over me lol. Poor girl.. |

| Re: Darned Facebook ! One thing to keep in mind. The second you post some thing online, it's online forever.
So be careful on what dirt you choose to post up about yourself (or others)

| Re: Darned Facebook ! Didn't this kind of stuff happen when Myspace was "king"? I don't have a FB but I do have a Myspace. I only add people I know, which is normally friends and family members. Profile page is locked for everyone that isn't in my friends list too. |
