Default Confusing vocabulary

Can someone please explain some of the words and terminology used in forums and chat? Maybe I'm showing my age, not that I'm old or anything, but I just can't figure some of it out.

For instance, I understand what being owned means. But what is pwnd, and how does it differ from owned? Or what does meh mean?

I know other stuff like IMO and ROTFLMAO and the likes, but I cant seem to figure out what l33t is supposed to mean.

If someone could please make a list, with explanations of some of the favourite term used on this forum, I would greatly appreciate it......

I love meh. It is sort of like. "Oh well." a very nuteral word. Can be used to admit defeat.

In my Opinion is IMO.

Roll On The Floor Laughing My Arse Off.

1337 is Leet which means elite. Really sad word IMO.

Pwnd is more hardcore.

meh

1. Expressing indifference or apathy; the verbal equivalent of a shrug of the shoulders

"What do you want for dinner?" — "Meh."

2. Expresses confusion; similar to what the ****.
I use meh all the time

Don't worry, you are not the only one.....

Back in the days then the internet was given to those choose few, there used to be a thing called Net Speak.
It was a group of commonly used phases such as.
FYI = For Your Infomation
BRB = Be Right Back
LOL = Laughing Out Loud
ROFL = Rolling On Floor Laughing
WTF = What The F**K
insert random keystrokes COK = Cat On Keyboard
and so on....

However, along came AOL who game out the internet to a lot of rednecks. And they though that they word be K00|_ by coming up with their on perverted version of Netspeak with is now called 1337 (or LEET).
And in doing so, they thought they were really cool in replacing letters with number or signs thinking that this is how the people on the interent really speaks like.
And from there it's just gone down hill. Especially considering that most 1337 now days is based around common mispellings.
EG. Teh = The
pwned = Owned

And then there is the number of people that things is cute to put the letter x0r at the end of words. It translates as "I'm a Leet Retard" in my eyes

Thank you AOL and Redneck America for giving the world 1337.

In point of fact: the majority of rednecks do not have anything better than dial-up and in most cases have no at home internet access at all due to there only being a small number of companies servicing rural areas. I share your pain with regard to 1337 speak, but it didn't come from us rednecks.

I agree it is very stupid. I'd like to see someone try to pick up a chick using l33t speak. It'd probably look something like this:

H3y b4by h0w y0u d01ng, 1 w4s 0n t3h c0unt3r str1k3 pwn1ng s0m3 n00bs wh3n 1 th0ugh "m3h, 1'll g0 s33 wh4t th3 hunn13s 1s d01n'" y0u kn0w wh4t 1 m34n?

The sad thing is, I read that with ease. (Not as sad as writing it though. )
