| ATHLON XP are getting EOLed!!!!! I am not really happy with AMD right now. They have desided to start making a push on the AMD ATHLON64. (This part was expected)
The problem is (the main reason why I am not happy with them), they have desided to bump up the price of the existing AMD Athlon XP 2800+ (and higher) by about 22% so that they are more expensive that matching Socket 745 Athlon64 Processor with HyperTransport.
Now I have just had a chat with some one in AMD and the message that i have gotten from them is Athlon Xp will be phased out all together by the end of this quarter.
So for all those people with upgrade plans on their current AMD Machines (Ie You don't what to purchase a new MoBo with your new CPU)... upgrade you CPU soon while you still can.
Currently I have just placed an PO for an AMD Athlon Xp 2600 that should keep me operational until 2006. I would of prefered at Xp 2800. But I really don't agree in paying an extra $35 on top of last week price just because AMD wishes to promote the newer AMD Athlon 64 bit CPU (plus a purchase of a new motherboard)

| It sucks, but hey, do what you can to keep business alive. And really, if you made a new product, would you not want to promote it?

I am just reading the email from one of my distributors, and they are suggesting that if you need AMD Athlons XP just for spare parts, to buy them soon. I have all ready had 3 phone calls in the last 24 hours where the person told me "But the older technology is suppose to go DOWN in price."
And it's stuffed over another one of my consultant customers that uses AMD Athlon Xp 2800 as his "standard box". I am just hoping that i a can find a Socket 745 alternative for the Gigabyte GA-7VM400AM Motherboard.
I am open to suggestions, as Gigabyte does not have any AMD Athlon 64 All In One Motherboard at this point in time.
Preferred motherboard brand :-
* Gigabyte
* MSI
* Asus
I have spoken to a few motherboard distributors today, and this change as taken them (and the motherboard manufactures) by suprise too.

| I use the MSI Motherboard. I don't have the name off the top of my head cuz its for my other computer but it's great. I think when it comes to 64 chips, MSI is the way to go.

| Slam,
I found one which model MSI motherboard you are talking about there. Unfortunatly, the disties what too much money for that particulare one. Like i can get a Gigabyte Non-Intergraded board with a seperate nVIDIA MX400 as the same price.
I am going to just sit tight with the gigabyte for now, and see what the distributors start to import in the next 2 to 3 weeks.
Thank for the help any ways.

| Well, I'll have to upgrade now instead of sometime later if they're not going to keep Athlon XPs in stock! |

I just got the new price list from my DISTY and it all ready AMD Athlon Xp 2000, 2200, 2400 are gone. I know that the 2000, 2200 are definatly EOL. But there is "NO ETA" on the 2400
This is leaving the 2500 and 2600 at very low stock.
And any thing beyond 2800 at over priced.
So if you want that one last upgrade with out having to change motherboards over on your XP, just move quickly.
There is some thing on about a new AMD Sapheron CPU. All I know that it's doing to be the "Duron" version of the AMD 64. But I have no other details (like what Socket) beyond that.
