I am a blood doner. However i just had not had the time to do any thing about it in the last few years.

We got 2 offices for blood donations. One is always packed with people. The other one is just a little out of my way now.

Really Mak? I have had HBP since I was 17 and I still give blood. Normal BP is 140-160/80-100 for me.

I have given 3 times. I'd like to give more, however, the blood drives are never at a time that I can go. If nothing else, I think it's awesome that it's possible to do that. I dont know that i know anyone that needed blood, but I am certainly willing to give up some of mine as my body makes plenty of it!

EDIT: and to Mak, my aunt has to take blood pressure meds..I don't think they work all that well either :\[/QUOTE]
Well lets just say i have had not 1 but 2 family members who were taking the medicine and both died before they hit 43 years of age while taking it. I am already at 32 without taking it ever in my life and i show no symptoms that they exhibited before they passed away. 1 of those 2 was my mother so i got to see it first hand.

I dont know for sure when my HBP started. But i can tell you that for me a really good day is below 180/100. I have gone to every drive to try. But everytime they take my BP they always tell me it is to high. I would give blood constantly if they would let me. But the nurses stop it before i can get to that point.

I have given about 6 times. Mostly through work, and at the time the Red Cross would give us slices of pizza after. Then they went to T-shirts to get people to come out. Now they can't do that financially I guess.

So they (Rec Cross) really appreciate when people give because there are no gimmicks any more. I haven't in recent years because I have high blood pressure now as well.

Mak, I have used hydroclorothyazide (HCL) prescribed by my doctor and that works well. Have you tried that or something similar? Probably, but I thought I would see if you have because it works for me.
