TROJAN Vundo B

can anyone help please, I have nortons 2005 anti virus and nortons 2005 firewall installed on computer, but now get an alert saying this trojan vundo b is on computer, i have tried everything nortons advise to get rid of it, i had to dowload a trojan removal tool, i also had to log in on safe mode and scan the computer but nothing seems to get rid of it. any ideas would be most appreciated, i also thought with nortons this would prevent anything like that going onto your computer in the first place.

thanks for your help lobos, i had already downloaded this tool and tried it, the result is that it says the removal was successful, but when i reboot the computer the nortons alert comes back on again, i have tried this about 6 times and always the same thing.

Close all open windows and open HIJACK THIS. Click “Scan” . When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to“Save Log”. Click on“Save Log” and save it to NotePad. Copy the entire log and paste it here.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET , most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed. Wait for someone to analyze the scan and advise.

The header for HiJackThis is very important: It helps to determine what steps might need to be taken to better secure your system, and provide more efficient cleanup procedures. For example, some files, which on standard on one platform, may indicate a virus or trojan on another. So, be sure to include this information with any future posts.

Now, let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

regsvr32 /u webmc.dll

It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save on the typing.

Download KillBox, unzip it to your desktop, then run it. Now:

1. select "Action | Delete on reboot".
2. copy/paste the following file name(s), one at a time, in the "Paste Path of File to Delete" field:

( You'll ha'e to locate this one. )


3. click "Kill File".
4. when prompted to "Reboot Now" select "No".

Search for...

ALCXMNTR.EXE

...using "Start | Search...".

tried all what you said lobos, but as im not very experienced in a lot of the techinical stuff im not sure if i was doing it right, when i downloaded the killbox, and put the file to be deleted in, the box froze and i couldnt get it off screen, so i opened another one and followed the instructions, but when i turned computer back on, the virus alert came back on, it was still the same. could you tell me please is this a threat to my computer or will nortons have it contained.

Ok try this you have a new varient i don't think the tool will touch yet


Step 1:

Please download Process Explorer by Systernals from HERE

Also download KillBox by Option^Explicit from HERE


Step 2:

Download the file by right clicking on the link and clicking save as
and save it to your desktop:

FixVundo Registry File


Step 3:

Print out the following instructions as you will not have Internet Access for the rest of this fix.

Then boot up in SAFE MODE

The rest of this fix must be done in safe mode.


Unzip Process Explorer and double click on procexp.exe

In the top section of the Process Exlporer screen double-click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of webmc.dll once and then click the kill button.

After you have killed all of the webmc.dll's under winlogon click OK.

If you see any .ini or ,bak files with either the same name or the file name in reverse, kill them as well

Next double-click on explorer.exe, select the Threads tab, and again click once on each instance of webmc.dll then click the kill button.

If you see any .ini or ,bak files with either the same name or the file name in reverse, kill them as well

Once you have done that click OK again.

Next run HijackThis and place a check beside each of the following.

Now click fix checked and close HijackThis.


Now double-click on the vundo.reg file that you saved on your desktop earlier and allow it to merge with the registry.

Step 4:

Double click on Killbox.exe and then check the delete on reboot button.

Enter the following filepath and filename into the Full path of file to delete box

C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\webmc.dll

Click the red circle with the white x and say yes to the delete prompt but no to reboot now
then repeat with any of the reverse named .bak or .ini files

after you have input the last file name then reboot

After your computer has rebooted please run Hijackthis again and post a new HijackThis log.
