I have only recently signed up here, but I felt I needed to reply to this thread

I find (in my opinion) AVG to be the worst Antivirus
If a User's computer is infected with Virus/Malware, AVG generally fails.
This is because the network driver that AVG uses is targeted by Malwares (actually usually all network)
Leaving the User's computer with no network/online ability what-so-ever

Therefore to avoid this horrible possibility that happens often with Malware infected computers running horrible free AVG
Best for users to find a better alternative. I say "better" because free AVG is never on the top of the non-biased Antivirus lists. (I say NEVER)

One Antivirus that does not corrupt the entire network under infection is Free Avira Antivirus
here's a quote from the member who first posted this excellent Antivirus (in my opinion)

Yet the reply was to this member that this is his opinion ?? Isn't that the entire threads point?

Here is another quote, from the thread originator's post:

Where is free Avira?
It has been mentioned a few times in this thread itself. I do not believe this "list" to be complete without it, in my opinion, and thousands of other's points of view

Osiris, what is your preferred Antivirus? I hope not AVG

Yes AVG is my preferred AV. I use at home and servers at work and to date, no issues have been reported. The company uses SAV 10 which is garbage, so I installed AVG Network Edition. May viruses have come and gone and my servers are running virus/spyware, etc Free.

This is because the network driver that AVG uses is targeted by Malwares

I did a quick search and wasnt able to find anything about this issue, can you point me to the right direction?

the thing with AV is which one is best changes as new infections come out. I look at 2 factors. 1 being performance. How much does it slow down a computer. and the 2nd being their history in detection (detection being more important than removal as if an infection is detected before it has actually embeded it'self, it can generally be stopped)

AV-Comparatives - Independent Tests of Anti-Virus Software - Welcome to AV-Comparatives.org

this is a great site. They are independant and thorough. Currently, I would recommend Avast Pro

most AV software is targeted at some point or another. Generally the infection will disable the service, or edit the host file to redirect AV sites to local host (preventing updates and online scanners)

No, it is a designated AVG network driver, that is not in all Antivirus softwares
Norton has one too

I still have to get the driver, I posted about it once on another forum.. stay tuned (it may take a day though, as I'm learning up on something else at the moment (~semi-related)

I'm not saying that the methods I posted are the only ones, but AVG is definately not the first AV to be targeted by malware. Any popular AV will be targeted at some point. The question is really how quickly and how well they respond.

You guy's never entered the best AV out there.. "PANDA" I have used all the top ones that you guys use.. and they have all failed me more than once.. but PANDA has not.. and I have used it alot on and off over the years.. and everyone that I have recomended it to, never saw a virus on their machine again..

Check it out..

Panda Cloud Antivirus FREE - The first free cloud antivirus against viruses, spyware, rootkits and adware

Note: THIS WILL HARM and prevent any "WAREZ" programs you may have.. not all but some.. (keygens.. patchers.. etc..)
