I scan with "Hijack This" often and just today have noticed an entry that is new.

All the searches I have done inform me that the file is safe and needed.

My main question is why all of a sudden has it shown up?

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\Userinit.exe


Any ideas?

So is everything else from MS supposedly but that does not mean that I want every service that MS has running just because it is safe.

I hate searching for info on a service and all you can find is that it is safe. I am not worried about "is it safe" most of the time. I just want to know exactly what it is used for , it dependents etc.
