| This is what my mother says happened while she was browsing a message forum: something tried to run a script, a window popped up and she clicked exit, and then WinAntiSpyware2007 and WinPop started to d/l. Spysweeper popped up and said: "Internet Connection Shield has blocked WWW.IN-T-E-R-N-E-T.COM". Mcaffee found: A0019721.dll Trojan: Vundo Spysweeper found: virtumonde core adware web buying Counter Spy (her most recent scan): web buying Trojan-Cicker.Small.AV Adware.TTC.B Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Small.cgn ClickSpring.Oinadserver [Browser Plug-in] WinAntiSpyware [Rogue Security Program] Mcaffee, Spysweeper, and Counter Spy "deleted" webbuying, core adware, etc, but everything came back after she restarted the computer. It took three hours to convince her to download HijackThis. I'm hoping you guys can help her... | Ok, so I used Help2go Detective and know to delete the following: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NBInstall] C:\DOCUME~1\MOM~1.GEO\LOCALS~1\Temp\MBDownloader_8 76919.exe (Description: Program running on startup from a temporary folder.) O15 - Trusted Zone: http://click.getmirar.com (HKLM) (Description: Mirar adware toolbar) O15 - Trusted Zone: Mirar (HKLM) (Description: Mirar Adware toolbar) O15 - Trusted Zone: Mirar (HKLM) (Description: Mirar Adware toolbar) O15 - Trusted Zone: Mirar (HKLM) (Description: Search hijacker) I just asked my mother if she made the HijackThis log after having Counter Spy, Spysweeper, etc, do a scan and "delete" everything and she said yes. And since it all comes back after restarting, would it be a good idea to have her restart her computer and make another log? Once I have access to her computer tomorrow I think I'll do that. Sorry for the stupidity... and thanks in advance to anyone who helps me. |

| I decided to go with the easiest solution first before d/ling the programs in Warez Monster's guide. We went into safe mode and deleted files in the temp folders, windows, local settings, and prefetch, and mozilla cache and cookies. The MBDownloader_876919.exe was in there and so was Winantispyware2007. We did another Spysweeper scan on safe mode, Mcafee popped up and found and deleted a Trojan (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\core.sys (Generic Rootkit.a) Ccleaner cleaned up and fixed some registry issues. We did a scan with Trendmicro before going into safe mode and it found and deleted a few things. We have restarted since then, did all her windows updates, and everything appears to be running smoothly at the moment. All scans are clean as well. We disabled restore point, restarted, and made a new restore point. The HijackThis log is below if you're up to reading it. If not, that's cool. I added Warez Monster's guide to my favorites. If anything happens, I'll come back and follow it to a T. Thanks, guys. | Will do. Thanks. I really appreciate you guys looking at the log. Well, I found system32/drivers/core.cache.dsk yesterday and deleted it. I only thought to look there after my mother read the Spy Sweeper logs backwards. She read the log for June 1st thinking it all came back, not realizing the June 2nd logs were clean and the time stamps for June 1st were fine starting at 4pm, which is after we went into safe mode that day. But it's good we had a false alarm because we found something we weren't expecting. But even before then, the scans and logs were looking clean, which kind of makes me paranoid, thinking there's something else lurking about that I missed. Also, I remembered the old Spy Sweeper log she e-mailed me for June 1st and looked in Registry Edit for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001 (002 or 003)\Services\core, which is what she had before, and found nothing. That's good. I'm 99.9% sure everything is going OK now. |
