Default I don't know if this is a virus?

Hi All!

Just a quick question.

Lately my laptop has been bringing up a "blue screen". It's happened three or four times now. The last time it occured was sometime early last week.

It's not an error screen, and I wish I could remember what exactly it said - but it basically says that if this is the first time you've seen it, try and restart. It's not a good message.

I had a friend see it one day when it happened and they said it means I have a virus on my laptop. However, I've since run my virus protection (Trend Micro) a number of time and it's not finding anything.

I'm not very tech savvy - and not exactly sure what I should do at this point. It hasn't caused me any problems thus far. Every time that screen has come up, I just reboot and it goes away.

Suggestions? Any other info needed?

I use Vista and all default settings as far as firewalls, etc.

Depending on the age of your computer, it could be time to run some maintenance on your hard drive. You probably should run a checkdisk to see if the hard drive is having issues.

My computer is basically new. Purchased within the last 6 months.

How do I run a checkdisk?

open my computer, then right click on the c: drive, go to properties and click the tools tab. There is a button for "error checking".

Doesn'tmatter if a PC is 6 years old or 6 minutes old. When browsing the web anything can happen without the proper maintenance. Google for CCleaner and do as veedub said and run a check disk.
