i am working on my friends computer and i have a problem.............

im not sure if this is the right section for this problem but if it is not than im sorry but i couldnt find a better section for it.
i am working on a friends computer. it has a smitFraud virus i think.

when you start the computer before it gets to the log on screen it will go to the "blue screen of death" it says "A driver has overrun a stack-based buffer". but when you start it in "safe mode" it will let you get on the admin. but you cant get onto the other user. but when you get on the admin it will let you work with it for about 15 minutes then it goes to the "blue screen of death" again.

does anyone know what you can do for this?

i know for a fact that it is a virus. according to google the virus is called a "SmitFraud- A Treacherous Trojan on Your Lap". my question was does anyone know how to fix this!

Go through the Tech Forums Spyware Remover Guide first as I showed you in my first post.

After completing what the guide says, post a Hijack log in the Virus - Spyware Protection / Detection thread so someone can see if your system is spyware free. This will help how to do the Hijackthis log:

the guide says you have to get on the computer then put a program then get on it in safe mode then run the program but i cant even get on the computer without goin itto safe mode and getting on admin. because if i get on it any other way it will just got to the "Blue screen of death" but even when i do go in safe mode and get on admin it will only let me work with it for about 15 minutes then it goes to the "Blue screen of death" any ways..........

Are you able to put the spyware removal program on a usb drive/external hard drive? If so, you could probably run the program off one of those while in safe mode.

yea but i dont know if you can install the program while in safe mode! i dont even think you can get on the internet while in safe mode!

Are you able to boot in safe mode with networking? You should be able to access the internet in this mode. I could be wrong but as long as the USB drive/external hard drive is large enough for the program it should be able to be installed onto it. I learned this method to be able to play games on a work computer :happy:

Download everything you need before hand. Put them on a USB drive, and install while you have time. There's one tool in the guide called "Smitfraudfix" run that one first, and see if you're able to go longer than 15min next time. Then go through the rest of the guide as normal.

Safe Mode with networking will get you on the internet from Safe Mode to run the apps.
