Question How do I find and remove the virus from my mom's computer?

I am visiting my mom and dad for a week. I feel it is obvious there is a virus on her computer. It has slowed down to a crawl, will often not allow her to go online, and even messes with the NetGear Router so 2 other computers can no longer go online.

She is using McAfee which comes free with her ComCast subscription [yes, she is using a cable modem from ComCast too].

When I attempted to scan with McAfee, I waited hours and it was still not done...and when I woke up in the morning, the computer has shut itself down and restarted. Her HD really isn't all the big so I feel it should not have required hours to scan for viruses.

Can anyone help me find the steps to clean her system?

I tried to look on the sticky here, but when I click the sticky for the spyware removal process, I just get lots of advertisements.

I did find something like a 7 step process here a few months ago that empowered me to completely remove a virus on my personal computer. It was an incredibly effective process and totally cleaned and healed my desktop computer. I wanted to say a big thank you again for helping me then.

Please help us again if you can.

It is me,

Freddy

Use these.

avast! antivirus - high security and protection from malware with anti-spyware and anti-rootkit software built in

Ad-Aware @ Lavasoft - The Original Anti-Spyware Company - Lavasoft

CCleaner - Home

These should help clean your computer up. Also Mcafee is not the best program to use, if I were you I would uninstall it and just use Avast

Hello,

Download the file via this Link. Then go through the process and post up the logs in the appropriate area.

Cheers,
Mak
