try downloading this

AutoRuns for Windows v8.73

this shows you all the stuff that automatically starts when u boot up windows, you can also disable things that automatically start up, when a lot of stuff starts at windows starting it starts windows slowly!

eyeless41,

Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded the software and installed it. It sure provided a great deal of information, none of which I understand in the slightest.

I have run Safe Mode scans and the machine runs great in Safe Mode. Problem is with booting up and shutting down. Takes on average 10 minutes.

Let me know if you have any additional suggestions.

John

Maybe it is booting really slow because of startup programs. Sometimes too it's just best to reinstall you operating system. AKA windows.

Your log locked clean to me I didn't notice any infections but you have too many programs running.

Norton, AVG, a couple of dell startup items, adobe, yahoo toolbar, etc.

Norton by itself is a resource hog and your running avg alongside it it appears from your log.

Uninstall either norton or avg completely from your system by going into start-control panel- add and remove programs, also remove any other useless programs you have installed.

go into start-run-msconfig select startup tab and untick everything but your anti virus program.

reboot

install ccleaner CCleaner - Home

close any open programs, run cleaner, then select issues, fix issues.

defrag and you should be good.

Thanks Mac,

I did what you suggested and it is running much better now. It is booting up in about 3 minutes. Thanks again.
