Default FBI Worried About Counterfeit Network Gear in DoD

Regular [H]News readers should remember the Trust in IC program that the US Department of Defense (DoD) is running. Well, the FBI is also in the game because of their breakup of a counterfeit distribution network that provided fake Cisco equipment to various US government agencies, including the DoD and FBI. They’re worried that the fake equipment may have hidden backdoors or other exploits.

Cisco believes the counterfeiting is being done to make money. The company investigates and tests counterfeit equipment it finds and has never found a "back door" in any counterfeit hardware or software, said spokesman John Noh. "Cisco is working with law enforcement agencies around the world on this issue."
