Hello, today after running AVG Free Virus Scan, I am across a virus called Trojan horse Downloader.delf.12.AG, the file is named clusap.dll. I have tried various ways of getting rid of the virus (safe mode scans, multiple scan software). The virus is really beginning to frustrate me.

First question, is it even a virus? Both McAfee and SuperAntiSpyware did not detect it while AVG did.

Anybody have any ideas on how I can get rid of this thing? Any help at all is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

you need to choose either Mcafee or AVG. Using multiple scanners will interfere with each other.

if you want it to run a bit quick download this: Download CCleaner 2.04.543 - filehippo.com (tick all the boxes when you run it so it cleans more)

Also do the following: START>RUN>Type MSCONFIG> STARTUP TAB> Disable everything but AVG, FRAPS and anything else you want to keep at startup.


Also decide between McAfee and AVG (i use avg so i recommend that) and uninstall the other.

I use AVG as well, it's much more efficient on resource's then McAfee. If you decide to remove it here is a tool to assist in cleaning up after you have uninstalled.

Next, you should create new system restore points to ensure that this infection doesn't return. Proceed as follows...

Disabling System Restore on Windows XP

IMPORTANT NOTES:

* You must be logged in as an Administrator to do this. If you are not logged in as an Administrator, the System Restore tab will not be displayed.
* Turning off System Restore will clear out all previous restore points.

To turn off Windows XP System Restore:

NOTE: These instructions assume that you are using the default Windows XP Start Menu and have not changed to the Classic Start menu. To re-enable the default menu, right-click Start, click Properties, click Start menu (not Classic) and then click OK.

1. Click Start.
2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.
4. Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" as shown in this illustration:
5. Click Apply.
6. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this.
7. Click OK.
8. Proceed with what you need to do; for example, virus removal. When you have finished, restart the computer and follow the instructions in the next section to turn on System Restore.

To turn on Windows XP System Restore:

1. Click Start.
2. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.
4. Uncheck "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives."

yeah use AVG, you already it detected a virus mcafee didnt.

Last week i assisted a friend in removing mcafee from her laptop, i didnt know you needed the tool but a quick goggle search fixed that, removed it and then got her to install AVG, it found about 6 virus's and some worms believe it or not, AVG removed them all.
