Default antispyware causing serious error

Hello,I had just started downloading microsoft antispyware, when my computer went off for a few seconds, came back on with the message, shutting down to protect against damage. When it restarted ,the message was :your computer has recovered from a serious error.Later I had just started downloading a different type of antispyware and the same thing happened.Does anyone know what might be causing the problem?I have windows xp sp2,firewall on with exceptions, adsubtract, and an antivirus program.Thank you if you can give me some advice.

Disable everything in msconfig and reboot, then try to download. Can you read what the error message says or is that all?

Thanks,I've only had a computer for a couple of months. Is there any risk involved in disabling all the stuff in sys config? I had very little time to read the info shown b4 the pc shut down.I think there was some info in the tools error log,but it's gone now.I've been reading help and support, could the error be anything to do with Data Execution Prevention,it seems unlikely specially as it was Microsoft antispyware. There are other problems:When I start using the Internet Explorer,I often get the message: unavailable offline(although the pc is certainly online);sometimes the IE window opens at maximised ,and sometimes at minimised;I quite often get Program not responding, when I'm only tring to disconnect from the ISP;and in Tools -My Computer Information -Hardware,it won't go past 18%,and gives the info: "document.all[...]" is null or not an object.Do you know if the free downloads that scan the registry and so on,tell you how many faults there are,fix some of them for nothing, and then say you have to pay to have the rest fixed, are a scam?Appreciate it.

download this:

http://www.ewido.net/en/

In msconfig, your system will be fine if you disable everything, dont mess with anything else in the other tabs unless you know what you are doing.

do a registry scan using ewido

and try this

Thanks.I downloaded the C Cleaner. For weeks, when I start my computer, there was a window:Media access.exe - Bad Image .I ggot rid of that by searching for and deleting the file, then at start-up,there was a different window: Dial-up connection. C Cleaner got rid of that for me.Just after downloading C C,and b4 rebooting,I downloaded software that is supposed to improve internet speed. After rebooting I couldn't get online, tried many times.Did a system restore, still couldn't go online.Went to bed hoping it was just an prob with my ISP,and that's what it was ,when I got up,was able to connect with ISP.Cuz of sys restore, need 2 downlo.... C C again. I also downlo... a program called Fresh (can't remem the rest)that's claimed 2 speed up download time,it didn't though.Did a scan with a system called PC Health,it found "Spy Traces" in Fresh files, after I had uninstalled Fresh......I haven't tried 2 downlo... Microsoft antispyware again yet,I'm sorta working up 2 it. Have had a windows update(VIA Rhine 2 Fast Ethernet Adapter) that couldn't be installed, but I haven't got an LAN connection anyway.Have a load of error log entries with:"The specified module could not be found." I think they are to do with all the "Program not responding" stuff.I have renamed the hosts files,4 of them in all, trying to stop an error that happens a lot:"The page cannot be displayed" The possible hosts fix is from a Microsoft article ,it's too soon to know if it has worked.I might find out just after clicking on "submit"
