| Random Download Speed Spikes ? Has anyone else noticed this, you go to download a 100 or 200mb file and it downloads in about 2 to 5 seconds flat ? It's happened to me 3 times since christmas. A 46mb file downloaded instantly (well near enough) and then a 300mb file took 9seconds and a 400mb odd file took 10 seconds.
Has anyone else noticed this occasionaly, a sudden massive leap in Download speed ? and then it stops after about 10 or 20 seconds. |

| Re: Random Download Speed Spikes ? This is all based on the servers that the files come from. Some servers like Real-Tek use a dial up connection. (Not really but they are so slow you are lucky to get 1Kb/s) While others like a Microsoft Server are fast using multiple GB connections to get you the file at 400KB/s.
What also comes into play is the stress put on that server. A site like FileFront wont be as fast as a site like a game home site since FileFront has thousands if not more people hammering on it at the same time. While you can have only a few hundred at the game server site.
It is the same thign with a site like this. It can be fast when there are a few users and not so many Bots or Search engines spidering it. But give the server 300 users and another 400 guests/bots/spiders and the site goes slow.
It all comes down to how many people are accessing said site at that time. This is the way of the internet Oreo. Always has always will be.

| Re: Random Download Speed Spikes ? But say you have a 4000kbps (4mb) connection, as a rough guideline you download at a 1/10th of that, so 400kbps.
But downloading a 50mb file in 1 second equates to 500mbps connection..im on a 2.9mb connection - Hence when i download from M$ i allways cap my d/l speed at 296.7kbp/s at odd times in the morning (like 3am)
That's what i mean. |

| Re: Random Download Speed Spikes ? Ahh yoru still behind. Quiet.
Again i was using my 400KB/s as a example. That is not my max by far. That is also going thru the FTM which i do not give full access to.
It all depends on the amount of people accessing the web around you as DSL and Cable are almost always shared connections and how busy the servers are.
At times you can get lucky and get the top speeds. OTher times you will notice a lag. It is called the Information Super Highway for a reason you know.
