Default Pop-up's?

I have recently been getting pop ups while surfing.. in both IE and FF (latest builds).. this is alien for me since like 1999.. what happened? did the browser company's sell us out?

I don't understand how tech is going backwards.. or the add companys are getting smarter

Either way it's a agravation.. where are the settings these days to control /prevent this?

Well for Firefox that has always been the case. Those are extensions. As for IE, unless you use it in InPrivate or Protect Mode, you leave yourself wide open. As using it otherwise allows for everything and anything to happen. Especially with UAC disabled. There is nothing to stop anything at that point.

Using the InPrivate filtering blocks ads and can do it automatically. With the Rules.xml file you can block almost as much as AdBlock for firefox.

For IE these are options. You have the option to turn them on or leave them off. You have the option to choose which mode you run it in. for Firefox it is a option as well. You have the option to install the extension or not.

Security is just as much your responsibility as it is the developers. Just installing and thinking your safe is like running Windows without a anti-virus. There is only minimal protection provided without help.

I would have to agree. I just started up IE8 without InPrivate filtering or anything, still not a single pop up.
