| Junior Techie | Your connection speed is a lot different from your download speed. You will never download at 2.8 mbps beacause the computer cannot handle (at least not yet) that much data through that port. When you surf the net, you are using port 80 and 81 primarily. MSN uses a different port, AIM another, YAHOO, ETC. there are thousands and thousands of ports that a computer has connected to the internet, and some of them have specific tasks and programs that use it, while others are free. For example, Napster uses port 6969 to transfer data. Your connection speed is based on an equation of all these port speeds added togther, then brought down to like 10 or 20 percent. if you want to learn more about packets, and ports, and different things, go to www.networkactiv.com and download the programs there. you will learn a lot about internet packets. |
