Default firefox using 1.2Gb of memory

when i first open firefox it uses around 40MB, then after 5 minutes of surfing it's up to 300MB and 10 minutes after that it'll be using 500MB of memory. i don't know what the problem is. here's a screen shot i took.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...Untitled-1.png

i've been using this firefox session for about an hour now, it's really chugging.

i doubled checked with Everest to make sure the task manager wasn't lying to me. i'm using the most recent version of firefox and i don't have a lot of add-ons or extentions. i dont go to sites that's crammed full of flash ads and javascripts. most of the time i just use firefox for forums, emails, blogging, tech news, podcasts, music, flickr, etc. it's almost like firefox keeps adding new data to memory when i do something but never gets rid of any data, unless i restart the browser. anyone know a fix for this?

extra info:
azerty 1 theme for firefox
add-ons: see image above
windows xp pro SP2
core 2 duo 2.2Ghz
2GB ddr2 667 memory
8600GT 256mb

It's because you have all those tabs open.

Firefox Ultimate Optimizer.

Firefox Ultimate Optimizer

This is a know flaw in all versions of Firefox. There is a massive memory leak. that will help try and keep it under control.

Mak beat me to it. Awesome little doo-dad, that is.

I'm running 35 extensions, and vary from 400K to 900K.

Better to use some CPU than to use 1GB or more of RAM.

My FF never used that much... but I tweak mine a bit. The FUO is just icing on the cake.

Use firefox 3.0 beta 5

It is by far much better than firefox 2.0

So true. But then again they also addressed this issue with Firefox 3.
