Default Firefox and adobe flash player

A lot of sites I use require flash player but when I go to download the plug-in it says that the adobe flash player install failed. Then it gives me the option to manually install, which takes me to the adobe website. So I'm trying to download it there, but in case that isn't what I'm supposed to do, what else will work? another browser? I don't want to use IE, maybe netscape would work?
