| Hello, Moved to correct area. Not a Windows question doesnt belong in the Windows area. DSL is simple really. The phone line in a house has 4 wires. The outer pair are used for the phone line. 1 for incoming signal. 1 for outgoing signal. the 2 inner pairs are what are used for the DSL signal. Same Conecept. 1 for outgoing signal. 1 for incoming signal. At least that is my knowledge of DSL lines and how they work. Cheers, Mak

| Hello, Dialup uses the same lines as the ones you talk with. They are very highly used. Which is why the speed is slow and you can not use the phone at the same time. While using the other pairs, which are not used by everyone at any given time, you can obtain more speed while still using your phone. It is all about the amount of interference going on at any given time. With the way DSL works there is far less interference and cross talk form the phone lines than Dialup. With dialup your are sending out data as well as others are transferring out voice. So the lines have to work twice as hard to get the data transmitted and then decoded. I hope that makes abit more sense for you now. Cheers, Mak

| Can ISDN achive the same bandwidth as DSL? I belive the reason most people use DSL rather than ISDN is that ISDN requires the pulling of a new cable to the home, while DSL uses the phone lines. Does fiber work over the phone lines as DSL does? I belive that it requires new cables like ISDN does. |

| Hello, ISDN, Cable and Fiber all require their own lines to the place where the connection is going. That is why DSL is so popular cause no new or extra equipment is needed. It is all right there already for people. Fiber is more advanced than Cable and does require very specific hardware to run it. I had Verizon FiOS at my old place and it took 6 hours to get all the new hardware installed. Much more advanced and indepth than the 1 hour it took to install Cable here. Cheers, Mak
