Default Deleting browsing history problem

I'm currently using Internet Explore 7 and WIndows XP Pro/Sp2. I just noticed today that when I try to delete my browsing history, the window that says "Please wait while browsing history is deleted" freezes. This never happened before and when I delete all the other like cookies, temp. internet files...they all work. If I click cancel, it says "cancelling..." but it doesn't go away. If I click close, nothing happens. The only way I can get rid of it is End Program through task manager and I get the error "Run a DLL as an App". Help is appreciated, Thanks.

Try installing a fresh IE or remove history manually through temp folder

1: Start your computer in Safe Mode w/Command Prompt

2: Go for Administrator when XP ask...if thats is what u have.?.

3: Wait for the Cmd.exe window and type "cd\"
hopefully now you see this: "C:\>"

4: Type "del index.dat /s"

5: Type "shutdown -r"
