Default certificate errors

i recently reloaded my machine. updated through windows update. now any site that has a certificate reports an error. "The security certificate issued by this website was not issued by a trusted certificate authority" I can install the certificate on the local machine but I still get warnings that the certificate has problems.

The websites I am visiting should be legit. sprint.com geico.com etc. I have visited these sites prior to the reformat with no problem.

what can I do?
