Default bad modem

A few years back i bought an HP computer and i kept getting signed off whenever sum1 called and i ended up switching Service Providers 5 times. And finally sum1 told me i might just have a bad modem. Well i bought an HP computer again and it's about a week old and has the SAME exact problem. Has anyone heard of this problem? Is there a way to fix this or do i need to jsut get a new modem?

You can always try a new modem, they arent expensive. Yes, I have heard of this problem but I am not exactly sure how to fix it, but if you got a new computer and you still have this same problem, just go for the new modem. Or you can always go broadband, thats nice, but a little expensive.

Just open your PC, Unscrew your old modem from the case, remove your old modem from the white PCI slot. Replace it with your new one, screw it in, and whalah!

This may not be a modem problem.

If you have dial-up and you have caller waiting on your service, that may disconnect you when someone calls. Depending upon the provider, you may have to put *70 into your dialing string to disable your phone services while you're online.

I'd check that out before changing modems or providers.
