Default Attachments in email(OE)

Just joined...I have been getting emails normally , including "test" emails that I have sent to myself that have a mesage in the attachment line. There is no paper clip or anything like that, but instead a line that reads like...
ATT00005.htm(255 Bytes)
To open the email without clicking on the above is OK , but if there is a link, I can`t get it.
My question basically is...Is there something in the Outlook Express settings that has been changed by mistake? The bottom line is , it`s got go!
Thanks, Jay

Have you run any antivirus software??? I wouldn't be bothering to try to open something like that. Especially if they are attached to e-mails you've sent yourself and haven't attached anything on purpose....

I have Norton Internet Security 2004 and I have run a full system scan and found nothing. I don`t treat these as actual attachments as they don`t contain the " paper clip" on the left hand side. It really seems as though there was something screwed up in the settings in Outlook Express. I would really like to compare what the settings should be with what I have. If there was a way to forward the message I sent to myself, I would but I can`t see any way of doing so.

ok, so your having problems receiving the attachments??

oe6 'blocks' most attachments by default. tools>options>security> clear "do not allow attachments to be saved....." keep in mind norton may also be removing some of your sent/received attachments.

This is really hard to explain. In the received mail screen (I wish I knew how to do a screenshot), the information showing is...
From: Jay Francis

To: Jay Francis
Subject: Test3
Attach: ATT00019.htm (255 bytes)
Of course , the body of the letter reads "Test3" only because that`s what I called it. The "ATT" line does not have the usual paper clip that is usuall associated with attachments, because I don`t have any attachments to send. This is really frustrating me because it seems that something minor in the settings has caused this. Any ideas are really appreciated.

Jay,

Did you ever resolve your ATT####.htm problem? Its happening to me and I wonder if it has to do with setting OE to read email as text only? I thinking it might indicate that html has been stripped from the received email.
