Install downloads from the web

Problem installing downloaded programs from the web.

Use XP pro. Having difficulty in installing downloaded web programs. As, for example, trying to install Vexira Anti-Virus program I can get as far as:

C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\VATEMP\SETUP.EX E which brings up Install, but when activated absolutely nothing happens.

Some other downloaded programs have failed to install and I wonder if the installation program in XP pro or Internet Explorer 6 may have become corrupted. I have tried installing in the RUN mode which also fails to install. Can anybody assist a relative newbie?

My system is AMD2200x, 512MB 2700 RAM, twin 80 GB drives
(Cand D).
