| Well first you have the size and bandwidth costs. 2nd you have the fact that some files are not suppsoed to be shared other than from sources approved by the applicaiton manufacturer. That is the big one. If you host any Microsoft file you site can and will be pulled. As the Host will get a message for a cease and desist. That is the major reson why. |

| I think file sharing hosting is prohibited by the majority of hosts as they can't charge for bandwidth consumption (as ftp traffic isn't usually included into bandwidth). I think this is the case with serverpoint.com shared plans. |

| There's a way out: you can get hosting services from a shared hosting provider and use file sharing from a free file sharing hosting service provider. I'm not really sure if this combination is convenient, but still... I guess one more reason for hosts not to allow file sharing is that this type of files are potentially dangerous. bwt I checked serverpoint.com and hostgator.com and couldn't find in their TOS that they prohibit file sharing hosting, so maybe it's worth asking their support. |
