How does selling domains work?

I've been considering making a hobby out of it. Investing in a domain and then selling it. So, I have a question. How does it work? Can I just go to any web hosting service, buy the domain, and sell it off? Or are there other technicalities?

Well, if you want to SELL DOMAINS then that's a different story, I'm not really sure. You could buy a domain, then attempt to sell it.. but you really won't make that much unless it's a very popular domain.

That's what I meant. Like, when the tsunami hit, someone immediately bought www.tsunamirelief.com and then sold it for more.

Why not just be affiliated with a company that sells domain names? It will be MUCH easier!
