Default Hosting a forum???

Iam interested in hosting a forum for my collegemates.
I am new to this field.
So what should I b knowing beforehand?
I also wanna know the entire procedure?
And is there any program to make my job easier?

I visited the website. It says that it does not offer free web hostiing.

there are some "free" forum site out there, but, you get what you pay for really. your best bet would be to get a webserver and pay like $5 a month and do it that way, you'll be able to customize your board and stuff whereas many free forum sites will not allow you to do so..

Here's a site I've paid for the last couple years but not actually run ... it's my son's toy http://www.ipowerweb.com . We;ve been very happy with what it offers for the money and it's customer service. Plus I only recall once in the last two years that the server has been down

phpbb is a set of php files you can use if you have a webserver w/ php and sql.
