Default ...files not linked from your site ...

Why do hosts put this into their TOS:
Quote:
using your account for files not linked from your site is prohibited.
I think I have seen this in serverpoint.com TOS.
Can anyone explain?

Don't think so, can it be prohibition just to use disk space for file hosting?

Yes it can. Some places forbid backing up your files on their server.

That's the usual policy of hostgator.com or any other big companies to make sure that clients won't be able to use terabytes of bandwidth and disk space. But what if you just make a simple site and put a link to the content you intend to host? Will it help? It seems that Serverpoint.com allows multiple domain hosting in their shared plans, so with a web site builder and a couple of minutes you'll be able to solve this prob.

Multiple domain hosting won't fix that IMO.

The idea was to create a web site and link it to your account so that all the content was legitimately linked to your web site, that's not very convenient, but definitely allows to overcome serverpoint.com policy against hosting additional files on the server.

I haven't found any info about that in their TOS.

Thanks, but I think for those who really need disk space for backups, it's better to use free file hosting services, but actually serverpoint.com promise to make hourly backups themselves.
