Email forwarding?

Someone registered a domain for me and I would like to use an email address such as: user@domain.com and have it forward everything to my hotmail account. How do I create email addresses?

I got an email from the place that I got my domain from and they said "To receive email at the domain you will need to find an email host then send us the MX record for their server so we can point the email for your domain to them."

I've never heard of an MX record. I really don't know what they are talking about.
