I don't remember but I think Serv-U is paid. After a quick search on google I fuond this. I haven't tried any of the servers mentioned but it's worth the try.

You are going to use the server to transfer the files to your friend right? If I were you I would run the server. If he is the one running the server he has to give writing permissions to the user and to the folder and may potentially increase the risk of a hacker attack. Regading the network speed it doesn't matter whois is running the server.

ok... also, does this atke a lot of CPU power? because he has a PD, and i have a core 2 duo... I might as well do it, theres a few hackers who i got on their bad side, and there di*cks so tehy might try to ruin my server so yea i'll just keep it secretive amongst some of my friends, and i'll run it. thanks for the help man, I'll see if this works

I don't think it will consume a lot of cpu power. I don't remember how much it consumed in my case but ask him put the server on and test it for a while, I think it's the best option.
