Default Backup Computer question

I just bought an account with mozy.com because my HDD is showing signs of failing soon. I have over 300gb's I need to backup. The estimate on the upload is over 3 weeks for just 98gb's of it! Would it be smarter to buy a big *** server off canaca.com and just upload all my **** via ftp?

Even at a constant rather high speed like 100 kbs it will take 11 days to upload 98gbs...

Its just a load of data, it takes time to upload. Only other option is an external hard drive.

spend the money on an external hard drive something like this is $75 for 250gb Newegg.com - Western Digital Elements WDE1U2500N 250GB 7200 RPM USB 2.0 External Hard Drive - Retail and you can continue to use it for backups for a long time.

plug in a second one and copy hd to hd. are you looking to have an offsite backup. I just take mine to a friends house to have it offsite.

If your not wanting to backup the operating system, you could backup the data onto dvd's. Which are dirt cheap now, thats what i usually do

I think the external or secondary internal hard drive idea is much better solution, especially when time is a factor. The idea of remote backup is safe and smart, but it's not the best idea when you suspect a hard drive is failing.

Get Acronis TrueImage 10 and pick up a hard drive locally. Make a full backup on full compression, and you can easily compress your entire drive down to nothing and save it to the other drive.

+1 for acronis true image 10. I use this to backup my entire hd weekly on both my desktop and laptop to a 250gb external. Gets the job done, and is extremely easy to use. Takes about 15 minutes to backup and about the same to restore completely. Whats nice is that it even comes with the option of making a bootable cd so you can boot straight to acronis and recover (nice function if you're hd fails).
