Working of a page-ranking application?

Hello everyone,

I came across some page-ranking web-app that would generate the current ranking of a website. I was wondering from where do they get the data for ranking a page? Do they somehow access the google databases and check their indexed values?

Alexa is one of the better known page ranking websites out there. There are others like it. It all depends on what the app is coded to do. It could use Google and then find out where the page ranks on the Google search, it could also use Alexa, it could use one of the many thousands of other search engines as well.

If I'm not mistaken Alexa doesn't do PR.

May I know that what kind of page ranking toll bat you are talking.Like Alexa ranking and page raking is not a same thing and Google will not give rank for that.
So please tell me which types of Ranking tool bar you want to know.

I use SEO quake. It's an add on for firefox that show's you links,PR traffic, SERP's. I couldn't live with out it.

For Page rank you can try google PR checker tool or Use may try SEO quake in the tool bar for PR,Links, SERP's,Traffic and Other ranking tasks.
