Default Trying to find information on Optimization

Hello,
I am new to the web site optimization and I am trying to get some information on some techniques on how to get better rankings for search engines like google. I do not want ones that will get me banned but good techniques that I can begin using to help my rankings. I currently only have a 1 out of 10 ranking for google and that took me a while just to get that. Any suggestions? Thanks everyone!

uhm... I see you have Page Ranking 0 (no green line).

-you need links to your site
-articles, content, etc.
-more time
-lots of reading (start here: http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum80/ )
-and a better understanding of what Search Engine Optimization is (read the website above)

Good Luck

Larry,

Thank you for the reply. There is a lot of good information here, and I appreciate everthing. I am new to the forum so I do not know all the places to look yet. I wonder why the ranking shows a PR1 on my computer and shows a PR0 on yours? Are there any good meta tag techniques to use? Thanks

Meta tags are not so important anymore. Many search engines give them low priority or disregard them at all, because they provide such an easy way to spam.
(Meta name="keywords" content="a, lot, of, bogus, keywords, that, don't, relate, to, the, page, content")

Read webmasterworld. It's loaded with good information. There is no single right approach to this, but there are a lot of good practises that you will have to learn from sites like wmworld. It's pretty darn interesting and not difficult at all, so enjoy the ride!

Edit: one last note: "Content is King". There is nothing more true about website promottion than this statement. Good content on a clean website promotes itself at 0 extra effort. Keep that in mind.

Solehero,

Thanks what wonderful information. I will check out webmasterworld, and begin planning what kind of content I will add to my site. I have recently added some news feeds that I receive from SitePro News. One thing that is hard is to find the time between managing my business, creating the pages, researching the products I list and also trying to create content, but I have been enjoying the process and look forward to learning and growing. Thanks again.

now you know why its hard to get traffic and ranking...
it does not really cost money... ITS more time consuming than anything.

You said:
"I wonder why the ranking shows a PR1 on my computer and shows a PR0 on yours?"

not sure what you mean?
You mean why your Google Toolbar shows a PR1 for your website and a PR0 for Tech-Forums?

it depends on the URL you are using.

http://websitename.com
is NOT the same as
http://www.websitename.com

Yes they mean the same, but not to a spider

If you have specific questions, fire away....
I'm pretty educated in this area.

But asking a board question is like saying, " How do I get more traffic to my web site?"

FYI: You might thing it is a specific question, but I might think its board... If you know what I mean.

Read, Read, Read... but take everything with a grain of salt...
NO one really knows, except the Search Engines themselves.

"Search Engine Optimization is an art, not a science"

Thanks Larry,
I have been reading a lot of information on this subject and I have little by little been adding and using some of the techniques on my sites. I will have to keep trying and keep working at it. I will see what happens this month when goodle crawls my site, they usually only crawl it once a month. Also I have been getting these calls from this place called traffic-power saying that they can optimize my site and get me a better ranking with the search engines. They want to charge $3200 for a year of service. Is hiring someone the way to go? Have you ever heard anything about this company? Thanks for everything.

So funny you asked about Traffic Power. TODAY I was doing research for a client....

Read about traffic power:
http://www.jimworld.com/apps/printab...ction::thread/

My opinion... STAY AWAY from them.
You should do what your doing:
Learn, Read, Try things, Understand the results and MOST Of all HAVE PATIENT!!!

Search Engine Optimization and search engine marketing takes time and understanding.

However, if your in need of getting help sooner than later (as in paying for help) I can help.
